This incredible local company was founded by Margarita. She was born in Bogotá, Colombia and she came to the US in her early twenties, after one of the main guerrilla groups (Fuerzas Revolucionarias de Colombia - FARC) extorted her family. She studied biology and went on to obtain a PhD. While dealing with the many challenges of juggling a career and family life, Margarita turned to her roots and started making empanadas. Finding herself short of time, but wishing for something wholesome to feed her family, she customized these handheld pies to be convenient and nutritious.  Ready in minutes, made from scratch with fresh vegetables and meats, they are the perfect snack or light meal. This new and exciting restaurant was started by local chef Fulbio Ricci. He is originally from Guatemala, where he grew up on his moms traditional dishes, full of rich flavors and unique textures.  He spent countless hours helping in his family's restaurant,  learning everything he could by watching the chefs at work and finding his passion for cooking. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1994. Fulbio would constantly host dinner parties and cook for his friends. It was in these dinners that he found his love for Arepas, traditionally a Venezuelan and Colombian street food, he learned to infuse his own culture and style into the dish. Soon after he began taking professional courses in cooking and mixology, and was able to become a restaurant manager at a number of different restaurants and cafes in the DMV. In the summer of 2016, Fulbio launched his first food venture as a personal chef and was able to begin sharing his delicious Arepas with the DC community. He recently launched Arepas & Empanadas to reach a broader community of eaters. You can see his menu and order his arepas here.

Colada Shop was founded by the wonderful Daniella. Her love for food and hospitality began at the early age of 13 when she founded a successful catering business from her home in Dominican Republic. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and a Certified Sommelier, she has cooked in some of the greatest kitchens in the nation, including Eric Ripert's Le Bernardin, and has also led management at venues such as Jose Andres’ Zaytinya and served as regional director for Richard Sandoval Restaurants. In 2016 Daniella launched Colada Shop in Washington DC, focusing on the love of good food, coffee, and cocktails combined with the flare of Cuban flavor and life. Colada is well known in the community to be a place to foster social interactions and flowing conversations. With two locations and a third in the works, it has quickly become a DC area favorite and has received numerous national acclaims. At the core of Daniella's work is her commitment  to the professional growth of her team, women, and minorities. She serves on the boards of Women Chef’s and Restauranteurs, RAMW and is a James Beard Women Leadership Program Fellow. You can see Colada's menu and order here.
